Visions For Vacancies

WingHaven Boulevard: What Do You Want to See Here?

Each week, we highlight a vacant commercial area and ask: what would you like to see move into this area?

Since this is your community, we want O'Fallon Patch to be a place where you can not only find out what's going on around town, but a place where you can share your thoughts and ideas with your neighbors. Our feature "Visions for Vacancies" aims to help residents take an active role in planning and building their community. So each week, we'll highlight a vacant commercial area and ask: what would you like to see move into this area? If you know of an area you'd like to see highlighted, tell us in the comments. Last week, we asked what you'd like to see at 2398 Highway K near K&N Cleaners and Aaron's Sale and Lease Ownership. This week, we are taking a look at a series of vacant spaces on WingHaven Boulevard?  If it were up to you, what …

Cruise Event Set for This Friday at WingHaven Imo's

Mustangs and Corvettes will be on hand for viewing.

Classic American cars and classic St. Louis pizza will be on the menu at the WingHaven Imo’s location this Friday night. From 5-11 p.m., the pizzeria will host members of the local Mustang and Corvette clubs as they bring their vehicles out for a "cruise." The idea is the brainchild of Scott Chervitz who started as general manager of the WingHaven eatery three months ago. “I’ve done it at some of the other restaurants that I’ve been at, and it works pretty well,” Chervitz said. “We’ve had probably a dozen or so customers say they are excited and want to show up on Friday.” Members from one local Mustang group and two Corvette organizations will be on hand for the evening. Chervitz expects about 30 or so cars to be parked for viewing, …

Local Artists Bring Color to Winghaven Boardwalk

On Sunday, the St.Charles County Arts Council presented their first Art on the Boardwalk event.

Local artists put their talent on display for the St. Charles County Art Council's first Art on the Boardwalk event on Sunday. Barbara Marshall, president of the arts council said the purpose of the event was to raise awareness about the organization, promote local artists work and to raise money for the council. Despite the Saturday cancelation in anticipation of bad weather, Marsall said she was still pleased with the turn-out and plans to make the event annual.  Thirteen artists signed up for the free event and each donated a piece to be auctioned on Saturday night at the Lillian Yahn Gallery. All proceeds will benefit the St. Charles County Arts Council. As of Sunday afternoon, Marshall was unsure how much money the silent auction …

Llywelyn's Brings Celtic Menu to Winghaven

The general manager aims to create lively, friendly atmosphere.

It’s a bit like the old sitcom hangout Cheers--assuming Sam Malone and his fictional staff served Celtic fare, of course. “There’s really a family feel with the staff and the customers,” said Danny Driscoll, general manager of Llywelyn’s Pub,. “It kind of throws people when they come in, and we know everyone’s name.” Llywelyn’s Pub debuted at Winghaven during the middle of last month. It’s the fifth area location for the growing chain, which started up three and a half decades ago in the Central West End and has since expanded to Webster Groves, Soulard and St. Charles. There’s also a location in Overland Park, KS. In addition to the standard salads, sandwiches, burgers and wraps, Llywelyn’s is known for its traditional pub fare. Patrons …

Real Mom of O'Fallon

Spreading Easter Joy Goes Both Ways

Real Mom of O'Fallon has learning experience on son's field trip.

Earlier this week I was selected to be one of the chaperone’s for my son’s class field trip.  This wasn’t your average field trip where the kids are out having fun exploring the sights of our city, but rather a service trip to educate the children on social justice.   Like every parent, I want my children to have respect for all people, regardless of age, ability or status.  When I heard that my son would be visiting Park Place Senior Living at Winghaven to spread some Easter joy with the residents of the assisted living community, I was thrilled to be a part of it.  As I’ve shared previously, my boys are at an age where their innocence and honesty leads to them saying things that may be hurtful or disrespectful.  I knew this field trip …
