The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will close the westbound section of the Interstate 70 Blanchette Bridge over the Missouri River the weekend of November 2-4. The westbound bridge will remain closed until fall 2013. The eastbound I-70 bridge will be used to carry three lanes of traffic in each direction. The exit ramps to Fifth Street in St. Charles will remain open. Motorists are advised to use Route 370 and Route 364 as alternate routes during the closure. Are you affected? Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will close the westbound span of the Blanchette Bridge for a major reconstruction for a year starting this weekend. Missouri Department of Transportation District Engineer Ed Hassinger said I-70 is a great route during the day, but encourages drivers to seek alternate routes during rush hour. "This is vital work that we need to do to keep I-70 a viable cross country corridor, but we can do that in a way that will keep the businesses functioning and get commuters to work," Hassinger said. Drivers may want to find alternate routes to avoid traffic delays during the upcoming 12-month construction of the Blanchette Bridge. Starting that first weekend of November, westbound I-70 traffic will be detoured to the eastbound I-70 bridge lanes for 12 months, with three lanes for eastbound and three lanes for westbound traffic. Immediately off the end of the bridge, there will be pavement in the median to move the three westbound lanes back over to the normal westbound pavement. The entire bridge and parts of I-70 will be closed for an hour during bridge blasts on three different days in November and early December.
