Going Down With the (Cardboard) Ship: O'Fallon's Shipwrecked Pirates Race

Registration for the race ends Wednesday, July 17.

Time is running out to enter O'Fallon's Cardboard Boat races, part of a day-long celebration of Shipwrecked Pirates Day at Alligator's Creek Aquatic Center.

The event features all sorts of nautical and pirate-themed fun, games and prizes from noon until 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 21.

The Cardboard Boat Races, which are held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., are a highlight of the day, and all ages are encouraged to enter, including parent-child teams.

Entrants build and race a two-person boat out of corrugated cardboard and duct tape.

The race entry fee per two-person crew with a boat is $10 for O’Fallon residents and $12 for non-residents. Entries close on Wednesday, July 17.

Awards will be given for the Fastest Boat and the Best-Decorated Boat. Another award called the "Titanic Award" needs no explanation.

For admission to Alligator’s Creek on Shipwrecked Pirate Day (with or without a boat), pay daily admission or show a season pass to get in. Daily admission for residents is $3.50 for children and seniors (55+), and $4.50 for ages 18-64.  Non-resident admittance is $4.50 for children and seniors, and $5.50 for adults.
