Three Area Students Make Make National Merit Semifinals

Students from Webster Groves High and Nerinx Hall are in the running for a National Merit scholarship.

National Merit Scholarship Corporation released their list of semifinalists this week for scholarships to be awarded next spring.

The scholarships, granted to about 8,000 students total, are based on academic achievements of current high school seniors who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) as a junior. Student scores and applications are considered in the selection process.

Out of about 16,000 semifinalists nationwide, three students are from schools in O'Fallon and Wentzville:

  • Joseph S. Schantz, Christian High School
  • Jacob T. Goebel, Fort Zumwalt North High School
  • Samantha E. Vomund, St. Dominic High School
  • Hafsa S. Mansoor, Timberland High School
Scholarship recipients will be announced between April and July 2014.
