The scholarships, granted to about 8,000 students total, are based on academic achievements of current high school seniors who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) as a junior. Student scores and applications are considered in the selection process.
Out of about 16,000 semifinalists nationwide, three students are from schools in O'Fallon and Wentzville:

- Jacob T. Goebel, Fort Zumwalt North High School
- Samantha E. Vomund, St. Dominic High School
- Hafsa S. Mansoor, Timberland High School
